Spettro (piccolo tutorial di inizio anno)

"Anno nuovo, vita nuova", dicono.
Chissà se sarà veramente così.
In effetti ci sono alcuni grossi cambiamenti all'orizzonte, per me
di cui però vi parlerò a tempo debito.
Nel frattempo, c'è un'altra IMPORTANTISSIMA considerazione da fare
e cioè che anno nuovo = nuova stagione di Game of Thrones! :-D Yuppii!!!
Con questo felice pensiero in testa, ieri mattina è nato lui

(sì beh, una mia versione leggermente "edulcorata" del meta-lupo albino con gli occhi rossi di Jon Snow...)

"New year, new life", they say.
Well, maybe it is going to be so indeed.
Actually, there are some big changes on the horizon for me
but it's too early to talk about that now.
In the meantime, there's another VERY IMPORTANT consideration that has to be made
and that's that new year = new Game of Throne season! :-D Yay!!
And with that happy thought in mind, yesterday I made this little fella
❄❄❄ Ghost ❄❄❄
(well, yes, a "cuter" version of Jon Snow's albino direwolf with fire-red eyes...)

Per ora ne ho fatto soltanto una spillina, ma ho intenzione di crearne anche un pupazzetto da tenere sulla scrivania, tanto per non dimenticare mai che "Game of Thrones sta arrivando" (sì ok sono pazza).
For now I've made just this little brooch but I'm going to make a bigger Ghost plushie too
I'll put it on my desk so it'll always remind me that "Game of Thrones is coming" (yes ok I'm crazy).

Per realizzare una spilla meta-lupo come questa, l'occorrente è:

❄ feltro, nei colori bianco naturale e grigio scuro

❄ filo mouliné grigio chiaro e nero

❄ filo semplice da cucito bianco e grigio scuro

❄ due perline rosse (2 mm, meglio se leggermente cilindriche)

❄ una base per spilla (ma può andar bene anche una semplice spilla da balia)

❄ imbottitura sintetica

❄ ago, spilli e forbici

❄ carta forno, matita e pinzette

❄ carta e stampante per stampare le sagome in fondo a questo post.

To make a direwolf brooch like this, you'll need:

❄ natural white and dark grey felt, 1 mm thick

❄ silver grey and black 6-strand embroidery thread

❄ simple sewing thread, white and dark grey

❄ two red seed beads (2 mm, better if slightly cylindrical)

❄ a bar-pin (a safety pin is ok too)

❄ polyester toy stuffing

❄ needle, pins and scissors

❄ baking paper, pencil and tweezers

❄ paper and printer to print out the templates at the bottom of this post.

PROCEDIMENTO / INSTRUCTIONS

Stampa e ritaglia le sagome in fondo a questo post. Fissa la sagoma della testa sul feltro bianco e ricavane 1x testa. Usa le sagome delle orecchie per ricavare 2x orecchie bianche e 2x interni di orecchie grigio scuro. Su di un pezzetto di carta forno, ricalca la testa di Spettro con i dettagli del muso da ricamare, usando una semplice matita. Ritaglia la testa di carta forno e fissala sulla testa di feltro con uno spillo (falle combaciare il più possibile), quindi ricama i tratti del muso con filo mouliné grigio chiaro diviso a metà (3 fili), a punto indietro. 

Print and cut out the templates at the bottom of this post. Pin the head template on white felt and cut out 1x felt head. Use the ears templates to cut out 2x white big ear pieces and 2x dark grey small ear pieces. Trace the head pattern on a piece of baking paper, using a simple pencil. Cut out the baking paper head and pin it on the felt head piece (make the two match). Use silver grey embroidery floss previously separated in half (3 strands) to embroider the head's lines, , using backstitch.

Una volta ricamati i tratti del muso, fai dei piccoli tagli sulla carta forno tutto intorno al ricamo, facendo attenzione a non tagliare nessun punto, quindi strappa delicatamente la carta forno usando delle pinzette.

Make a series of small cuts (be carfeul not to cut the stitches!) to the baking paper and then very gently tear the paper off using tweezers.

Usa il filo nero diviso a metà per ricamare il naso (a punto satin) e la bocca (a punto indietro).

Take a length of black embroidery floss (separated in half) to embroider the nose (satin stitch) and the mouth (back stitch).

Cuci l'interno grigio scuro delle orecchie, con punto a sopraggitto e filo grigio scuro, su ogni sagoma di orecchio. Usa le orecchie finite come sagome per ricavare altre due orecchie di feltro bianco (cioè il retro di ogni orecchio). Cuci fronte e retro assieme con punto festone e filo bianco. 

Whipstitch the twp small dark grey ears to the bigger white ear pieces using dark grey thread. Use these finished ears as templates to cut out the back of each ear, from white felt. Sew back and front ear pieces together using blanket stitch, in white thread.

Fissa la testa su di un pezzo di feltro bianco e ritaglia lungo i bordi, per ricavarne il retro.

Pin the head to some white felt and cut out the back of the brooch.

Su questo, cuci la base per spille (o la spilla da balia), con filo bianco.

Cut the bar-pin (or safety pin) on the back head piece, using white thread.

Cuci assieme fronte e retro partendo dal lato inferiore della testa, con filo bianco, a punto festone. Inserisci le orecchie dopo aver già iniziato a cucire, oppure, se preferisci, fissale prima in posizione con uno spillo (date le dimensioni veramente minuscole, io ho trovato molto più semplice inserire le orecchie man mano che cucivo, e tenerle ferme con le dita).

Sew front and back head pieces together starting from the bottom side of the head. Use white thread and blanket stitch. Insert the ears as you go on sewing or pin them in place before sewing the brooch together (I found it much easier to insert the ears while sewing and hold them in place with my fingers instead of using pins)

Lascia un'apertura di circa 1 cm per inserire l'imbottitura sintetica, quindi richiudi con un nodo sul retro.

Leave a small 1 cm opening to insert some stuffing, then sew up the gap and secure the thread with a knot at the back.

Aggiungi le perline rosse per creare gli occhi di Spettro. Usa filo bianco e cuci ogni perlina da parte a parte, attraverso lo spessore della testa, fissando il filo con un nodo sul retro per ogni occhio.

Add the red beads to make the eyes. Use white thread and poke the needle all the way through the head, pulling the thread ligthly for each eye. Secure the thread with a knot at the back.

Ecco qui, Spettro è pronto :-)

That's it, Ghost is ready :-)

Ora tocca solo mettersi comodi ed aspettare che passi l'inverno... ah, che attesa snervante! ^_^

Ombrelli

Circa un anno fa, per la prima volta, mi sono commossa al cinema.
Non è stato il film a farmi commuovere (era Monsters University della Disney e ho riso come una scema)
bensì il corto che lo ha preceduto, ovvero questo qui:

I still remember the first time I cried at the cinema
I didn't cry while watching the film (it was Disney's Monsters University and I actually laughed like a fool)
but for this short animation that came before it:


Delicato, dolcissimo, quasi poetico oserei dire
tanto che ancora oggi a rivederlo una lacrimuccia ci scappa (sono proprio una tenerona rammollita, lo so).
Vi piacciono gli ombrelli? A me tantissimo
che siano a spicchi colorati, a fiori o a pois (i miei preferiti in assoluto sono quelli a cupola trasparenti)

oppure dal sapore un po' retrò, col manico in finto-osso e volant lungo il bordo.

Era da tanto (da quella sera dopo il cinema almeno) che l'idea di fare una spillina ombrellosa mi frullava in testa

e quale periodo migliore di questo, piovoso e uggioso, per concretizzare finalmente questo progetto rimasto sulla carta per davvero troppo tempo.

Dainty, sweet, almost poetical I'd say

I still find it pretty touching (I'm an emotional wimp, I know).
Do you like umbrellas? I do a lot
Rainbow umbrellas, polka-dot umbrellas, floral umbrellas
I really like them all (my fav is the domed see-through umbrella)
The idea for an umbrella brooch has been on my sketchbook for ages ( from that night at the cinema at least)
and now I've finally managed to take this project from paper to felt.

Per creare una spilla come questa, l'occorrente è:

✂ feltro, nei colori che preferite (io ho usato il marrone, il menta, il rosa pallido e il giallo pastello) + due quadrati di feltro di almeno 10x10 cm (bianco o a scelta, purché contrastante con gli altri colori)

✂ filo semplie da cucito, negli stessi colori del feltro

✂ filo mouliné, nei colori che preferite (io ho usato il violetto e il verde muschio)

✂ 6 perline argentate da 2 mm

✂ 5 perline del colore che preferite, da cucire al centro dei fiorellini ricamati (2mm)

✂ spilla da balia

✂ ago, spilli e forbici da ricamo appuntite e affilate

✂ carta e stampante per stampare le sagome in fondo a questo post.

To make an umbrella brooch like this, you'll need:

✂ felt, in the colours you prefer (I've used brown, mint, pale pink and pale yellow) + two squares of felt of at least 10x10 cm (I've used white but any colour is fine, as long as it makes a nice contrast with all the other colours)

✂ simple sewing thread (same colour of felt)

✂ embroidery thread / floss in the colours you prefer (I've used lilac and moss green)

✂ 6 silver seed beads (2 mm)

✂ 5 seed bead in the colour you prefer, for the centre of each embroidered flowers (2 mm)

✂ safety pin

✂ needle, pins and sharp embroidery scissors

✂ paper and print for printing the templates at the bottom of this post.

COME SI FA / INSTRUCTIONS
1. Stampa e ritaglia le sagome in fondo a questo post. Fissa le sagome di carta sul feltro e ritaglia un pezzo per ogni sagoma, in feltro di colori diversi. Ritaglia un triangolino largo circa 5 mm e lungo circa 1 cm per la punta dell'ombrello. Fissa la punta e il manico su un quadrato di feltro bianco e cuci con punto a sopraggitto e filo marrone. NOTA: disponi il manico, la punta e la sagoma più grande dell'ombrello sul feltro bianco PRIMA di cucire, per trovare la posizione ottimale (una volta cuciti tutti i pezzi, ci dovranno essere almeno 2 mm di bordo bianco lungo i lati dell'ombrello).
1. Print and cut out the templates at the end of this post. Pin them on felt and cut out a piece for each tempalte, in different colours. Cut a small triangle about 5 mm wide and 1 cm long, to make the umbrella's tip. Pin the tip and the handle on one felt square and sew using whipstitch and matching brown thread. NOTE: place the handle, the tip and the bigger umbrella shape on white felt BEFORE sewing, to find the right spot (be sure to keep at least a 2 mm border of white felt from the umbrella edges.)

2. Dopo aver cucito il manico e la punta, cuci la sagoma di ombrello più grande (menta nella foto), sempre con punto a sopraggitto, quindi cuci quella rosa ed infine quella gialla.
2. After sewing the handle and the tip, whipstitch the bigger (mint) umbrella piece first, then sew the pink and the yellow pieces.

3. Ricama dei fiorellini a cinque petali su ogni spicchio, a punto margherita, con filo mouliné diviso a metà (quindi cuci con 3 fili). Aggiungi una perlina al centro di ogni fiore (del colore che preferisci). Ricama dei nodi francesi sopra ogni fiorellino, sempre con filo mouliné diviso a metà. Infine aggiungi una perlina argentata ad ogni punta dell'ombrello. IMPORTANTE: cuci le perline argentate singolarmente, fissando il filo con un nodo sul retro e tagliandolo a ogni perlina. Se invece vuoi cucirle tutte con il medesimo filo senza tagliarlo ogni volta, ricordati di farlo "zigzagare" verso il centro dell'ombrello, in modo che non formi una fila diritta (è più facile a farsi che a dirsi... vedi foto).
3. Embroider a tiny flower on each slice, using detached chain stitch, with embroidery thread previously separated in half (3 strands). Add a bead at the centre of each flower. Embroider a French knot above each flower with moss green floss (3 strands). Add a silver bead at each pointy end of the umbrella. IMPORTANT: sew the silver beads individually, securing the thread with a knot at each bead. If you want to sew all the beads with the same thread, you'll need to sew zig-zag toward the centre of the umbrella, so that the thread on the back doesn't make a straight line (this is easier done than said... see picture).

4. Ritaglia l'ombrellino lasciando circa 2 mm di bordo bianco. Posizionalo sul secondo quadrato di feltro bianco, fissalo con degli spilli e ritaglia per ottenere il retro della spilla. Su questo, cuci la spilla da balia, quindi unisci fronte e retro e cuci assieme con filo bianco e punto festone. Fissa il filo con un piccolo nodo sul retro.
4. Cut out the umbrella keeping a 2 mm white border. Pin it on the second white square of felt and cut out the back piece of the brooch. Sew the safety pin on it, pin front and back together and sew using blanket stitch. Finish neatly with a knot at the back.

e TA-DA! La vostra spillina ombrellina è pronta.
and TA-DA! Your little umbrella brooch is ready.

I ❤ ice cream, parte seconda

E così l'estate è ufficialmente iniziata

Non è esattamente la mia stagione preferita (il caldo, le zanzare, la prova costume...)

però c'è di bello che si possono mangiare pesche e melone a volontà (hurrà!)

e gelato in quantità industriale, ovviamente.

Per il secondo progettino della serie gelatosa (il primo lo trovate qui) ho pensato a una spilla coccolosa

uno stecco gelato al gusto panna e pistacchio

dalle guanciotte rosso fragola, ricoperto di cioccolato e dolce granella colorata. 

No, uno così farcito e goloso non ne ho mai visto in vendita

ma dopotutto il bello del creare sta anche nel dare libero sfogo alla fantasia J

And so summer is officially here
Not exactly my fav season (the heat, the mosquitoes, the "bathing suit test"...)
but having peaches and melon is so great
and of course tons and tons of ice cream, too.
For the second project of my ice cream-themed series of tutorials (you can find the first project here), I've made a cute brooch
a cream and pistachio-flavoured popsicle 
with strawberry-red cheeks and sweet sugar sprinkles all over its chocolate topping.
I've never seen a popsicle that full and rich on sale in any store
but when it comes to creativity it's nice to give free rein to the imagination J

Per creare una spilletta come questa ci vogliono:

✂ feltro marrone, bianco, verde menta, beige e un po' di rosso per le guance

✂ perline colorate, 2 mm

✂ 2 perline nere tonde di vetro, 4 mm

✂ filo semplice da cucito, nei colori del feltro + nero per cucire gli occhietti

✂ imbottitura sintetica

✂ filo mouliné/da ricamo rosso (6 fili) per la bocca

✂ spilla da balia

✂ forbici affilate (meglio se da ricamo)

✂ ago e spilli

✂ carta e stampante per stampare le sagome in fondo a questo post.

To make a brooch like this you'll need:
✂ felt, in brown, white, mint green, beige and a bit of red for the cheeks
✂ seed beads in a mix of colours, 2 mm
✂ 2 rounded black glass beads, 4 mm
✂ simple sewing thread, same colours as felt + black for the eyes
✂ toy stuffing
✂ 6-strand red embroidery thread
✂ safety pin
✂ sharp embroidery scissors

✂ needle and pins
✂ paper and printer to print out the templates at the bottom of this post.

COME SI FA / INSTRUCTIONS

1. Stampa e ritaglia le sagome in fondo a questo tutorial. Fissa la sagoma 1 su del feltro marrone, la sagoma 2 su feltro menta e la sagoma 3 su feltro bianco e ritaglia un pezzo per ogni sagoma. Fissa il pezzo marrone su quello verde e quello verde su quello bianco, con alcuni spilli; cuci assieme i pezzi lungo i bordi inferiori, a sopraggitto e con filo dello stesso colore del feltro.
1. Print and cut out the templates. Pin template 1 on brown felt, template 2 on mint felt and template 3 on white felt and cut out a piece of each template. Pin brown felt on mint felt and mint felt on white felt; sew the pieces together along the bottom edge, using whipstitch and threads that matches felt.

2. Ritaglia dal feltro rosso due cerchietti di circa 6 mm di diametro per le guance. Cuci le guance sul feltro menta con punto a sopraggitto e ricama una bocca sorridente con filo mouliné rosso precedentemente separato a metà (ovvero in 3 fili). Aggiungi le perline colorate sul feltro marrone.
2. Cut out 2 small circle from red felt, about 6 mm in diameter, to make the cheeks. Whipstitch the cheeks on mint felt and embroider a tiny smiling mouth in red floss previosly separated in 3 strands. Add the seed beads on brown felt.

3. Dal feltro beige, ricava 2 stecchi; cuci assieme i due pezzi con punto festone, partendo dal lato diritto. Non imbottire. Fissa il gelato su un pezzo di feltro bianco con uno spillo e ritaglia per ottenere il retro della spilletta. Su questo, cuci lo stecco con pochi punti superficiali (senza trapassare il feltro) lungo il bordo superiore e la spilla da balia (sul lato opposto rispetto allo stecco).
3. Cut out 2 stick pieces from beige felt; sew them together starting from the straight edge, with blanket stitch. Don't stuff. Pin the popsicle piece on white felt and cut along the edges to get the back of the brooch. Sew the stick on the back piece with a few whipstitches into the felt (not through it) along its top straight edge and add the safety pin.

 

4. Unisci fronte e retro e cuci a punto festone, con filo dello stesso colore del feltro o di un unico colore neutro, lasciando per ultima la parte marrone. Imbottisci la spilla dalla sua sommità, quindi chiudi l'apertura e fissa il filo con un nodo sul retro.
4. Pin front and back pieces together and sew using blanket stitch, in matching colour threads or with a single neutral thread, leaving the brown top for last. Stuff the brooch from a small opening on top, then sew up the gap and secure the thread with a knot on the back. 

5. Aggiungi gli occhi con filo nero. Non tirare troppo il filo, per non fare infossare eccessivamente le perline.
5. Sew the eyes, with black thread. Don't pull the thread too hard, so that the beads don't look too sunken.

TA-DA! La vostra spilletta gelatosa è pronta per essere indossata J
TA-DA! Your popsicle brooch is ready for you to wear it J

✂ filo mouliné da ricamo nero, pesca, rosa pastello chiarissimo o bianco avorio, verde e verde chartreuse

✂ 2x perline di vetro fucsia o rosse, 3 mm

✂ 3x perline di vetro argentate, 2 mm
✂ spilla (2cm)

✂ lana bianco avorio per la coda

✂ imbottitura sintetica

✂ carta forno (pochissima)

✂ ombretto o fard rosa

✂ forbici da ricamo

✂ pinzette 

✂ pistola per colla a caldo

✂ carta e stampante per stampare le sagome in fondo a questo post.

To make a bunny brooch like this, you'll need:

✂ beige felt and simple sewing thread

✂ embroidery thread in black, peach, pastel pink or ivory white, green and chartreuse green

✂ 2x fuchsia or red glass seed beads, 3 mm

✂ 3x silver glass seed beads, 2 mm
✂ brooch pin (2 cm)

✂ white wool yarn for the tail

✂ stuffing as polyfill

✂ backing (parchment) paper (a tiny piece)

✂ pink powder blush

✂ embriodery scissors

✂ tweezers

✂ hot glue gun

✂ paper and printer to print the templates at the bottom of this post.

☁☁ PROCEDIMENTO / INSTRUCTIONS ☁☁

1. Fissa le sagome sul feltro beige con degli spilli e ritaglia 2 conigli e 4 orecchie. Cuci assieme due sagome di orecchio a punto festone, senza imbottire. Ripeti per ottenere entrambe le orecchie finite.
1. Pin the templates on beige felt and cut out 2 bunnies and 4 ears. Sew two ear pieces together with blanket stitch; don't stuff. Repeat to make both ears.

2. Ricalca il disegno da ricamare su un pezzetto di carta forno. Fissa la carta forno su una sagoma di coniglio e ricama i fiori e le foglie a punto margherita con filo mouliné diviso a metà (3 fili) color pesca e verde, usa invece il punto spaccato per ricamare gli steli.
2. Trace the embroidery pattern on a piece of baking paper. Pin the paper on one bunny piece and embroider the flowers and leaves using detached chain stitch, in peach and green embroidery thead, previously separated in 3 strands. Use split stitch to embroider the stems.

3. Rimuovi, tagliandola, quanta più carta in eccesso attorno al ricamo - non strappare! Fai dei piccoli tagli alla carta rimasta attorno ai punti e usa delle pinzette per strappare MOLTO DELICATAMENTE tutta la carta rimasta. Riempi i petali e le foglie con un paio di punti paralleli, usando il filo rosa pallido per i fiori e il filo verde chartreuse per le foglie. Aggiungi una perlina fucsia/rossa al centro di ogni fiore e tre o più perline argentate tutt'attorno al ricamo.
3. Cut off the as much paper as possible - don't tear it off! Make some cuts to the remaining paper without cutting the stitches and use tweezers to tear off the paper VERY GENTLY. Fill the petals and leaves with a few straight stitches in pale pink (the flowers) and chartreuse green (the leaves). Add a fuchsia/red seed bead to the centre of each flower and three or more silver beads all around the embroidery.

4. Dividi a metà il filo moulinè nero (3 fili) e ricama un nodo francese per creare l'occhietto del coniglio. Aggiungi una spilla sul retro del coniglietto, fissa le orecchie tra le due sagome con uno spillo e cuci il coniglietto a punto festone, partendo dalla coda. Lascia una piccola apertura di 1,5 cm e inserisci l'imbottitura (CONSIGLIO: le estremità vanno sempre imbottite per prime, spingendo al loro interno piccoli batuffoli di imbottitura e usando un attrezzo dalla punta arrotondata, come ad esempio il manico di un pennello).

4. Cut a length of black embroidery thread and separate it in 3 strands. Use it to embroider a French knot, to make the eye of the bunny. Add a pin on the back piece of the bunny, pin the ears in between the two bunny pieces and start sewing the bunny together from its tail, using blanket stitch. Leave a 1,5 cm opening to insert the stuffing (TIP: always stuff corners/ends first, using a rounded tool to gently push in small puffs of stuffing, like the handle of a paintbrush)

5. Con un bastoncino di cotone, picchiettate del fard rosa per creare la guancia del coniglietto. Usate la lana bianca per creare un mini pon-pon, ovvero la coda del coniglio, e incollatela con una goccia di colla a caldo alla vostra spillina (la colla va messa sulla coda, non sul coniglio, mi raccomando!)

5. Tap a bit of pink powder blush using a cotton bud, to make the cheek of the bunny. Make a mini pompom with white wool yarn and glue it to the bunny using hot glue (add the glue to the tail, not to the bunny)

Non dovrei dirlo visto che l'ho fatta io, però... la trovo semplicemente ADORABILE! È una delle mie creazioni che amo di più (ma, d'altra parte, come si fa a non amare qualcosa - qualsiasi cosa - a forma di coniglietto?! impossibile)

I shouldn't say it, but... I think it is simply ADORABLE! It's definitely one of my favourite creations (well, it is quite impossible not to love something - anything - shaped like a bunny, isn't it?)
